Children’s Classes

Classes are held for children age 3 years and up. Classes are small allowing teachers to give quality teaching. The school is all inclusive and every child has the opportunity to grow and shine in professional IDTA exams and bi-annual shows at the Dukes Theatre Lancaster.

Locations

Morecambe – Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at St Christopher’s Church Hall, Bare ( just off Broadway ) and Saturday mornings.

Caton – Thursday evenings at Victoria Institute

Ballet

This classical style of expressive movement has something to offer for everyone. The most disciplined of all dance forms, encourages good posture, strong bodies and grace and quality of movement. Ballet has a technique which is the foundation for all dance.

Tiptoe Academy age 3-5 Exclusive to JB!!

A specially structured class for early years children. They “tip toe” in learning classical technique to a wide variety of wonderful inspirational music. The children work their way around the room dancing with Darcey Doll, Music Mousey, Brenda Bear and the 3 cheeky fairies. Class sizes are limited so every child has the opportunity to lead an exercise.

Modern ComTemporary Jazz

One minute you may be dancing to the rhythm of a drum, the next to a funky jazz style. You may explore contrast between expansion and relaxation or learn to isolate in a slick stylish mood. Whatever the atmosphere of the class, it will be a wonderful opportunity to react and interact with other members and really dance to express your feelings.

Limber/Tricks

A newly devised class at JB for 2023. This subject has been introduced to compliment the other core subjects at the school. The class consists of limbering, conditioning and strengthening the dancers body enabling them to take those skills and help them become a better dancer. The start of the lesson is focussed on limbering and they finish learning some of the more basic gymnastic moves which every child loves doing, for example cartwheels, head stands, forward and backward walk overs and many more!. Another main aim for everyone taking part is for all the students is to be able to do the splits!!

Musical Theatre age 5 upwards

This all-encompassing class combines Dance, drama and song. A fusion of classic and modern dance styles. Focusing on building confidence as a performer and gaining knowledge of what it takes to be in a theatre production. Musical theatre takes you to inspirational heights! Let’s make the next generation of theatre stars! The children are introduced to new and old musicals and build an amazing knowledge!

Dance Fusion

An extremely popular subject with opportunities to learn new dance styles including lyrical, Bollywood, Salsa, Cha Cha Cha, American Smooth, Jive, funky hip hop and many more!!! The children have an enormous amount of fun and learn about all the different dance styles the world has to offer!

TAP

A gentle, rhythmical and enjoyable way to keep fit!

Tap is rhythm – rhythm is tap. Its origins are many and varied. Americans claim its origin dates from the African Jazz age. The Irish stake their claim to the Jigs and Step Dancing. The English relate back to northern Clog Dancers but whichever one chooses to believe, Tap is as popular today as it was in the heyday of the great Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly musicals.

Evergreen shows, 42nd Street and Crazy For You, and the more recently Stomp and Tap Dogs, highlight the great diversities of style and music in tapping.
